Research, the cornerstone of our business.

Scientific roots

In the 1960's, Horphag's chairman, Charles Haimoff initiated a visionary concept of 'healthy aging'. In his Berlin based laboratories, he developed a unique substance, a water-soluble flavonoid extracted from the bark of the French maritime pine tree, Pycnogenol® French maritime pine bark extract.

Over the past 40 years, Horphag Research has invested millions of dollars in extensive scientific research assuring the safety and efficacy of Pycnogenol® as a premium ingredient.

Achievements and commitment to science

Horphag Research's company mission remains deeply rooted in a commitment to scientific research. Charles Haimoff's original global vision from decades ago is the driving force behind Horphag's commitment to research and development today. Pycnogenol® French maritime pine bark extract is now one of the most well researched ingredients available on the market of science-based and innovative health solutions, with more than 300 scientific publications.

The results of our relentless research can be viewed on Medline, where 98 percent of the publications pertaining to French maritime pine bark extract have been performed based on Pycnogenol®. Comprehensive research and development programs continue to be carried out in partnership with researchers and specialist companies around the world, and new applications for Pycnogenol® are explored every year.

Horphag Research supplies Pycnogenol® as a raw material to companies that produce a variety of Pycnogenol®-containing products. Horphag Research does not make any claims regarding the use of these finished products and each manufacturer is responsible for ensuring that the claims made for and use of its products comply with the regulatory requirement of the locations in which it markets its products.
